SMGFL Under 9's

Under 6 year old players are not permitted to play in structured or League organised football.

In order to assist the development of Girls Football the League are proposing to organise the following age groups and playing conditions.


The purpose of the games is to create a bit of fun, learning opportunities and to gain some playing experience against other players. It should include some coaching opportunities and teaching of the Laws of the Game.

Your experienced coaches should be able to organise a few minutes coaching and warm up prior to each game then one of your coaches should act as a referee or Games Leader and take control of the game.

For the turn up and play section the League will provide a coach/games leader.

All infringements of the Laws should be penalised but an explanation will be given. Foul throws will be stopped but the thrower will be given the opportunity to learn & try again.

NOTE: It is still the Club Coaches responsibility to teach players the Laws of the Game.

If coaches or games leaders need to learn the laws or have a refresher the League will organise a 2-3 hour course for one evening and offer further advise during the trial period. This should be sufficient to give the leaders the confidence and knowledge to control a game.

The structured Mini-Soccer will be organised games set to play each other a number of times and on a League basis. Results will be taken and used for the purpose of development. Results will not be published (FA Rules).

The none structured Mini-Soccer will be for Club teams who have to sit out because of odd numbers, girls who are substitutes and cannot get a game or need more playing experience and or girls who are not members of a team but want to have a try at the game.

Girls wishing to take part in the none structured soccer must be available to be selected at the allocated kick-off time.

Player positions will be at the choice of the Club but in the turn up and play players will be rotated similar to volley ball. It is unlikely that Goalkeepers will have dedicated positions at this young age and therefore goalkeepers should be given the opportunity to play in outfield positions.

Players Equipment:

Players must have Safe & Suitable Footwear, shin-guards and knee length stockings.

Shorts or Jogging Pants are desirable with Football Shirt or T Shirt. Colours may be Clubs own colours or Bibs of the same colour.

For the tun up & play section bibs will be provided by the League.

A change of clothing is recommended for travelling home.

Parents, Spectators & Club Officials:

As the League is investing in the equipment for the games, Parents, Spectators & Club Officials are expected to assist in assembling and dismantling the equipment.

Including the collecting and removal of any accumulated rubbish.

NOTE:

At the end of this trial period Clubs will be asked to vote on the continuance of these age groups and style of football.

Recommendations to modify any of the procedures can be made during the trial period and will be considered for both the trial period and for future proposals.

SEASON 2013-14

If the trial period is a success and member Clubs wish to continue this into next season then the League will offer to organise this type of football to all new and existing Clubs/Teams.

There will be costs to be worked out and these will have to be passed onto the Clubs.

However it is the Leagues hope that we can acquire grants towards the development costs and to this end Clubs should be willing to go into partnership with the League to secure these potential grants.

If Clubs are not prepared to partner the League then the grant applications will fail and the total cost of running this type of football will have to be borne by the Clubs.

The grant that we shall be applying for is the Football Foundations “Grow the Game” and if your Club agrees to be a partner of the League it will prevent your Club from making a separate application for a period of 2 years.

The League does need your agreement to this within the next 7/14 days so we can make the application as a joint venture.
